The Weir: A Thriving New Age-Friendly Community in Tallaght
The Weir, Clann’s latest Age-Friendly housing scheme in Tallaght, is quickly becoming a vibrant hub of community life. With 81 homes, three communal garden areas, and a spacious communal room, it offers residents the perfect mix of comfort and opportunities for social connection.
Colette O’Donovan, one of The Weir’s first residents, describes her new home as “a safe place to live in, with spectacular scenery and so central to everything.”
Since the first residents began moving in back in June 2024, the sense of community at The Weir has been building. Residents are in the process of forming a Residents’ Association with guidance from Resident Engagement & Insight Coordinator Elaine Bruton. Great ideas for community activities are taking shape, which include proposed day trips, exercise classes, music lessons, and gardening workshops. Green fingered residents are already planning how to bring the communal garden spaces to life.
One of the highlights so far was an invitation to a Shamrock Rovers match at Tallaght Stadium, located just next door. Many of The Weir’s residents are lifelong supporters of the team, making this outing particularly special.
Thanks to the efforts of their Housing Officer Orla Murphy who reached out to the Shamrock Rovers Board Director, 50 tickets were generously provided to residents. The team went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an enjoyable experience, even arranging accessible seating for a visually impaired resident.
Residents enjoyed a warm welcome, met the Board Director and had their photo taken by the team’s official photographer before the game. While they didn’t meet the players this time, the experience was a memorable one, and many are looking forward to future matches.
With so many exciting plans already underway, there’s no doubt that The Weir will continue to grow as a place where residents feel safe, connected, and inspired.
