Mick’s Story
Resident Spotlight: The Key to Thriving in a Community – Mick’s Story
Mick, you’ve been part of the Ard Carrig community since its very beginning. How did it feel to be the first tenant allocated a home here?
It was incredible—like winning the lottery! When I first received the key to my apartment in September 2010, I couldn’t hide my excitement. It marked the start of a whole new chapter in my life, and I’ve cherished every moment since.
What were your first impressions of Ard Carrig?
The peace and welcoming atmosphere struck me immediately. I lived alone for the first two weeks, and it gave me a chance to fully appreciate the quietness and tranquillity of the place. The surroundings here are just perfect for someone looking for a peaceful and fulfilling lifestyle.
What do you love most about living in Ard Carrig?
It’s the combination of the tranquillity and the convenience. The amenities are nearby, so you really don’t want for anything. But what I appreciate most is the calmness of the area. It’s the perfect place to enjoy life at a relaxed pace.
You’ve built strong relationships with your neighbours over the years. What’s your secret to thriving in a community like this?
Being sociable is key. When you live in close proximity to others, especially in age-friendly housing, it’s important to try to get along with people. I believe if you’re open and willing to connect with others, you’ll thrive here. That mindset has helped me integrate into the community and become a part of it.
You’re also known for supporting your neighbours in practical ways. Can you share a bit about that?
I like to help where I can. For example, I voluntarily collect food from the Food Hub that Ard Carrig receives and distribute it to the other residents. It’s a small thing, but it makes a difference. Helping others is part of what makes this community so special.
What does living in Ard Carrig mean to you?
I feel very blessed to call Ard Carrig my home. It’s more than just a place to live. It’s a community where I feel supported, connected, and truly at home. The people here, the peaceful surroundings, and the sense of belonging make it a wonderful place to live.
As the first tenant, your journey reflects the values of Ard Carrig. How would you describe these values?
Ard Carrig is all about peace, community, and a sense of belonging. It’s a place where people support each other and form meaningful connections. My experience here has been a testament to that, and I’m grateful every day for the life I’ve built in this incredible community.
