Our Great Place to Live competition celebrates the efforts of individuals and communities to make their neighbourhood a great place to live. Each year, there are three categories: Best Neighbourhood Award, Biodiversity & Sustainability, and the Community Neighbour Award.

The Best Neighbourhood Award went to Baile an Rí in Dunlo Co. Galway, a tight-knit small community of happy neighbours that all look out for each other. From gardening, painting, composing poetry, photography and winemaking, these residents sure like to keep busy!

Our Biodiversity winner, Oriel Lodge, keeps on top of watering the plants and vegetables and ensuring that everyone in Oriel Lodge gets fresh tomatoes and herbs throughout the summer months.

Congratulations also to the winners of our Community Neighbour Awards,

Betty of Oriel Lodge, Mary of St. Jarlath’s Court, Paddy also of St. Jarlath’s Court and Susan of the Maltings.

We spoke to a couple of our Community Neighbour Award winners about what the award meant to them.

Mary, a resident of Saint Jarlath’s Court since 2008, said “Winning the Community Neighbour award was a pleasant surprise as I didn’t think I was deserving of it. I would like to thank the people who nominated me and Clann for the prize. Saint Jarlath’s Court is a great place to live, I feel safe and secure. It’s a really nice community and nice to be part of it”.

Being nominated and winning the Best Neighbour Award also took Paddy by surprise. “It was a pleasant surprise, and I am delighted, thank you. I am very lucky to be living where I am”.

These awards are testament to the invaluable contributions you all make to your community, and a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s awards.
