Damp winter weather can have far greater risks for at-risk groups such as those over the age of 65. The risks of getting a cold or flu are intensified for older people or those with other health concerns.
Chest infections and pneumonia pose a greater risk for the more vulnerable people in our society.
Get the flu vaccine, it’s free from your GP if you are a medical card holder or there may be a small fee for those without. The best time to get vaccinated is in September before the weather deteriorates.
Remember to have a regular check-up with your GP throughout the year.
If you are feeling unwell outside of GP surgery hours, you can call the HSE Information Line on 1850 241 850 to find your local out-of-hours GP services.
If you suspect you may be unwell or have the flu, please contact your scheme manager to let them know you are not well. The scheme manager can then make arrangements to take the necessary steps to monitor the situation.
