Elder Abuse

The majority of retired people do not experience any form of abuse, however for a limited number of vulnerable older people they can be taken advantage of.

Elder abuse can take many forms, below are some of the common forms of elder abuse;

  • Neglect
  • Physical
  • Psychological
  • Financial

The HSE has developed a useful resource on how to recognise elder abuse, visit HSE.ie or call 041 6850300 for further details.

If you suspect that elder abuse may be occurring or if you are a victim yourself, you can contact your GP, the Garda Síochana, your public health nurse or your local health centre.

Once you have reported the case, please inform your local scheme manager and they can put the necessary procedures in place to ensure that safety standards are managed and maintained.
