Una Cusack and Hughie Maguire are residents in Clann’s Oriel Lodge scheme in Cavan. Una and Hughie met and fell in love in the famous Lisdoonvarna , Clare. They were introduced by Willie Daly, the famous matchmaker at the annual Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival.
After a few months of getting to know each other, Una who had been living in Dublin moved to Hughie’s home county of Cavan where they settled down together. Una and Hughie were one of the first residents who moved into Oriel Lodge when it opened in 2009.
Over the years, Una and Hughie returned to Lisdoonvarna, where each year Hughie would go down on one knee to ask Una to marry him. One year he even went down on two.
On the leap year in 2012, Una proposed to Hughie in the communal room in Oriel Lodge. On 12th June 2015, Hughie & Una got married in a local hotel. A local bagpiper played as Una made the short journey from Oriel Lodge to the hotel. Una and Hughie were joined on their special day by Willie. As it turned out their wedding day was also Hughie’s 60th birthday.
Una and Hughie continue to go to Lisdoonvarna every year with their friends to celebrate the first time they met.
